Learn More. Power door locks are the most important security element of your vehicle. They keep potential thieves and burglars out of your car, and make it easy for you to lock and unlock your doors in a hurry.
The power door lock system is a relatively simple system. When you press the lock or unlock button located on your key, or inside your vehiclethe power door lock sends a relay signal to the power door lock actuator. The actuator, through a series of gears, locks or unlocks the door or doors that you are controlling. There are three primary components of the power door lock system that can fail, resulting in a useless power door lock:.
Blown fuse : A fuse is a low resistance resistor that creates overcurrent protection. Essentially, the fuse takes a large amount of electrical current, and converts it into a smaller, more manageable amount of current that the door lock actuator can have. Dead power door lock switch : The power door lock switch is a relatively simple rocker switch. It reacts to you pressing the lock or unlock button, and sends a simple signal to the actuator.
Like light switches, the power door lock switch can die due to frequent use.9x movie 2018
Malfunctioning power door lock actuator : The power door lock actuator is the part of the power door lock system that actually controls the locks. The actuator is a series of gears, with a set of rack and pinion gears at the end.
When the actuator gets the signal from the power door lock switch, a small motor turns the gears. The rack and pinion are able to convert the rotational motion of the motor to a vertical motion, which locks and unlocks the doors. Like the power door lock switch, the power door lock actuator can malfunction due to the large amount of use that it gets. A mechanic can often tell by the sound whether the problem lies with the fuse, the power door lock switch, or the power door lock actuator. After determining the problem with the system, the malfunctioning piece will be replaced.Age, wear and tear can take its toll on even the finest of cars.
This even includes the Mercedes-Benz automobile.
Regular maintenance can prevent some problems, but servicing your car as soon as a problem surfaces can keep things from escalating. Several types of door lock problems have been identified across the Mercedes line, but with identifiable solutions--including some you can handle yourself. If all of the locks on your Mercedes fail to open or close first check your key fob to make certain that its battery is working. Replace the worn out battery, if necessary.
If key fob is working, you may have a faulty key fob, which can be repaired or replaced by taking it to your dealer. If just one lock won't open on your Mercedes, then the problem may rest with broken wiring, a bad solenoid, or perhaps with a blown fuse.
Check your fuse box first to determine if a blown fuse is keeping the lock from working. If so, replace the fuse. You likely have a shorted door lock actuator, which you can replace with a new unit for the lock that is not working.
If a door unlocks, but will not lock again, then replace the door switch. Perhaps your Mercedes locks work, but they open and close slowly. Apply WD or equivalent product directly into the lock; open and close lock to recalibrate. That recall involved fixing the side door locks on affected models which might have been exchanged during production.

My C W elegance auto saloon has developed a fault with the central locking.
It won't lock from a distance. Changed the batteries in both fobs. Still doesn't work, sometimes even when only a few inches from the door handle sensor. Somedays it will; others it won't. When locked with the fob sometimes but opened with the key, alarm does not go off, but hazards flash. Is this right? The door lock button on the dash works as does the auto lock after 10mph. Also, correctly, unlocks all doors when a door is opened from inside.
Someone said it might be the amp in the C pillar - anyone else have any thoughts before I start to tear out the trim and spend money? Other garages don't want to know. Yes if it works with the key a few inches from the door handle but not from way off the Amp in C pillar will have failed, this normally affects the radio where reception will be poor and noisy.
The key could have failed on the RF side, is the spare the same. Hi I don't have any radio reception problems, and both key fobs are the same. Today Sunday it would not lock or unlock with the remote fob at all - I had to use the metal key.
How do you test the key fobs? Alex CrowMar 6, Picture The amp also have 2 smd fuses in side that can be replaced. Thanks guys. Tested the fobs with my digi camera - they're working OK. AM radio reception is fine if you can ever say that about Medium-wave.
Hope so. Car is going to local garage tomorrow Tue 8th who says he has a Merc himself and that his mechanic is MB trained why isn't he still working for MB I ask myself? Will let you know the outcome. Thanks again. Does the guy have STAR.
Don't know about STAR, but the garage rang this morning to say that the fault is with the door handle. They also said it may need re-programming afterwards. Might not be as bad financially as I expected. I will re-post when fixed. Thanks again everyone.4chan sg

Door Latch problem of the Mercedes Benz E 2.Central locking in Mercedes-Benz W models controls door locks, trunk lid or luggage compartment lock and fuel filler flap lock. The electronic functions of central locking are spread out over several door control modules, with sensors and actuators connected directly to a control module in the vicinity of their installed location.
The rear electronic SAM module is the master control module for central locking. The lock mechanism in each door consists of a latch, an exterior door handle and an inside door lock release handle. Only the driver door left front in North America is equipped with a lock cylinder. The exterior door latch is responsible for locking, unlocking and latching the door shut. The latch itself is pretty reliable.
However, having the electronic lock solenoid integrated in the latch creates some problems. The lock solenoids fail over time, leaving you with a malfunctioning lock. If it is the driver lock, you can still lock and unlock with the key.
With other kinds of doors, you may not be so lucky. If you are having a problem with the lock, try cleaning and lubricating the latch. I find this will restore function of the lock from time to time.
If I can successfully restore function this way, I still replace the latch to avoid future problems. It is a good test to see if the problem is electrical or mechanical. These cars use a vacuum operated system to lock and unlock the doors. The system uses a vacuum pump mounted under the passenger seat to either suck or blow air through lines to each door.
At each door, there is a vacuum diaphragm that over time can leak and eventually fail. By today's standards, this type of system may seem a bit illogical.
In fact, nearly everyone I told about the system said, "Why wouldn't they just use a electric solenoid?
Nowadays, electronics are nearly foolproof and are cheap enough to use in almost any application. Mercedes started using vacuum operated locks sometime in the 's, when modern electronics were still expensive and not quite reliable enough to be used in a system that would be used so frequently. The W Mercedes was one of the last cars produced that still used the older, proven vacuum system before finally converting to electrically operated door locks. Unfortunately, as the cars age, the components of the vacuum system can deteriorate, eventually leading to leaks that will typically prevent one door from locking while the others lock with no problem.
The one door can still be locked manually by pressing the lock button down; however on some cars like ours, there is no lock cylinder on the driver's side door. This presents the problem of having to press the lock button down on the driver's door with the door closed. Obviously, not many people are going to want to press the lock button down from the passenger side or climb over the center console to exit the car. The first step in replacing the actuator is to disconnect the battery.Mercedes Door Lock Repair - Bouncing Issue Fix

Mercedes Door Lock Problems
This wasn't an easy job for Tam. It's fortunate that he was able to complete his previous assignment earlier than expected. The car's battery is located under the rear seat and has two release latches to remove the seat for access to the battery. The right side latch operated smoothly and easily but the left side was stubborn and wouldn't unlatch. Tam persisted and made every effort not to damage the plastic latch.
After many tries he succeeded in removing the seat.
